Queen'scroft High School

Post 16

Welcome to Post‑16 at Queens Croft

Our Post‑16 provision is a supportive, aspirational environment designed for young people with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities. We focus on helping every student grow into a confident, capable young adult by building on their strengths, celebrating their individuality, and preparing them for meaningful futures.

Post‑16 is not just an extension of school — it is a carefully planned transition into adulthood, where learning becomes increasingly practical, personalised, and connected to real life.

Preparing for Adulthood: What We Prioritise

We shape our curriculum around the four Preparing for Adulthood pathways, ensuring every student develops the knowledge, skills, and independence they need for life beyond school.

Employment & Aspirations

  • Students explore their interests and talents through supported work experience, enterprise activities, and vocational learning.

  • We help them understand what employment can look like for them — from supported roles to voluntary work or further training.

Independent Living

  • We teach essential life skills at a pace that suits each learner: cooking, cleaning, personal care routines, money management, and travel training.

  • Our aim is to build confidence and independence, whether a student will live at home, in supported living, or work towards greater autonomy.

Community Inclusion

  • Students learn how to access and enjoy their community safely and confidently.

  • This includes using public transport, visiting local shops, taking part in leisure activities, and building positive social relationships.

Health & Wellbeing

  • We support students to understand their physical and emotional health, make informed choices, and develop self‑advocacy skills.

  • Wellbeing is woven through everything we do — from physical activity to emotional regulation and communication.

Admissions into Post 16

Admissions and Working Levels for Post‑16 Students join our Post‑16 provision through the Queens Croft admissions criteria and must have an EHCP identifying the need for continued specialist support. Learners are generally working at Entry Level 1, with some working slightly above or below this level depending on their individual needs. This ensures that our life‑skills‑focused, highly personalised curriculum is the right fit and supports each young person to continue progressing towards adulthood with confidence.
