Medical Needs
Queen’s Croft High School is committed to supporting pupils with medical conditions so they can access learning, participate fully in school life and remain healthy and safe. Our approach follows the statutory requirements of the Children and Families Act 2014 and the DfE guidance Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions at School, as reflected in our school’s policy.

Our aim is to ensure pupils with medical conditions receive the same opportunities as all other pupils, including access to curriculum activities, enrichment, school trips and sporting events.
How We Support Pupils
Our Medical Needs arrangements include:

Developing and maintaining Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) where required
-
Ensuring that staff are trained and competent before supporting pupils with medical needs
-
Making medication accessible and safely stored, including emergency medication
-
Working closely with parents, carers and healthcare professionals
-
Ensuring pupils can participate fully in school activities, with appropriate risk assessments where needed

Our Medical Needs Policy
Our Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policy sets out:

Medication in School
We can administer prescription and non-prescription medication following written parental consent, in line with the procedures outlined in our policy (sections 7–7.3).
Emergency medication such as inhalers, adrenaline pens and diabetic treatments is always accessible to pupils
Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs)
Where a pupil’s medical needs require it, an IHP will be created in partnership with:

parents/carers
-
relevant healthcare professionals
-
the pupil (where appropriate)
-
key school staff
IHPs outline what needs to be done, when, and by whom, and are reviewed at least annually or sooner if needs change (policy section 6).
